Join the SAP Network
- You must be a licensed or certified psychologist, social worker, employee assistance professional (CEAP), physician, or a substance abuse counselor certified by either the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors Certification Commission (NAADAC), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) at the Master Addictions Counselor (MAC) level or the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (ICRC).
- You must have at least two years of clinical experience working in substance abuse treatment settings where you have performed diagnosis and treatment for substance abuse disorders.
- You must be familiar with the DOT 49 CFR Part 40 rules for drug and alcohol testing and the procedures governing SAPs. ASAP will provide you with educational materials that can equip you to become familiar with the DOT rules. In addition, ASAP personnel will be continuously available to answer questions and provide coaching.
- You must be willing to take a Qualification Training, as stipulated in the DOT 49 CFR Part 40 (c) by December 31, 2003. The Qualification Training teaches the curriculum specified in the 1999 revision of the DOT 49 CFR Part 40 rules for drug and alcohol testing. ASAP will alert you to the availability of Qualification Trainings throughout the country and on the internet
- You must pass a Qualification Examination by December 31, 2003. The Qualification Examination must be provided by a nationally recognized professional training organization. ASAP will alert you to opportunities to take a Qualification Test as they become available.
- You must be willing to complete and document 12 CEUs of SAP-related professional development training every three years.
